His 2018 venture 2.0 is the highest grossing Tamil film of all time and the tenth highest grossing Indian film overall. Shankar's works typically deal with contemporary social issues, vigilante themes and involve the usage of state of the art technology and VFX. Six of his films have won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects.
